Bticino Living Now Home/Away Switch not executing assigned actions in Apple Home
Hello Leslie,
I am having challenges with the Home/Away switch in Apple HomeKit; the switch is available in the Home app and I can assign scenarios/actions to Button 1 and Button 2, however, it does not execute the assigned scenarios. Testing the action on the assigned button works perfectly fine though. However, upon finishing the button/actions assignment, the physical switch buttons then executes the scenarios set in the Home+Control app, it’s like it’s overwriting whatever I have set in the Home app. This is not ideal as I would like to use the switch with the scenarios defined in the Apple Home app so that other devices are controlled that way too.
Are you aware of this issue and have you/your developers reproduced this in the past? Is there any way I could possibly fix this?
I can attach screenshots with configuration details, if needed. My gateway is on firmware 404 and the home/away switch is on 63.0
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
Markus
Hello Markus,
I found an internal ticket with a similar issue (same behavior with a light switch, but they share the same firmware). Here is the conclusion from the teams :
The rooms where the devices are must exist in both HomeKit and Home + Control apps. Otherwise it could cause a communication incompatibility with Apple services
Please check that in the 2 apps and tell me if it helped

Hello Leslie,
I’ve finally found the very same issue I have. But I can see it haven’t been solved.
I do have the two rooms existing in both apps and named the same. Still, the home/away switch doesn’t work with actions/scenes made in HomeKit.
Hello Simone,
Can you send me the email address of your Netatmo end-user account via the contact form ?
I’ll check if I see something strange in your installation, especially if your firmware are up-to-date

Hello Leslie, thank you so much. I’ve just wrote to you via Form.
I may add that the current version of the firmware in my system is the 901, but as you will certainly know very well, there’s no way to check for firmware updates, in the Control+Home app. Although I’ve read that Control+Home is deprecated, it’s still the only app available via iOS App Store.
Hi again Simone,
Everything is OK and updated in your installation, and I don’t reproduce the problem on my side
What is the precise action you tried to configure ? Can you try to configure the ON/OFF of one of your power outlet to one of the Home/Away switch button and see if this specific action works ?

Hello Leslie, thank you. This very evening I will surely try to set up a very simple direct action in HomeKit (not even a scene) and see what happens, but I think I’ve done it before with no luck. Problem is, I don’t want to reset everything because I’ve got 34 devices depending to that gateway and automations/scenes wise that would be a pretty disaster.
The home/away switch didn’t work before anyway, I mean at the very beginning when I had only 7 devices.
By the way, I gave you the last firmware version (901) but that was the gateway’s. The firmware running on the actual switch is 77… should that help.

Hi Simone,
Let me know when you will perform the test. What do you mean by “the switch didn’t work before” ? Can’t it be a mechanical issue ?
Also, I forgot to ask : does the scenarios linked to the Home/Away switch defined in Home + Control work ? Or does it only impact scenarios set via HomeKit ?
(Concerning your firmware versions everything is good)

Hi Leslie,
didn’t have time yesterday, maybe this evening. Anyway, I’ll keep you posted asap.
- It can’t be a mechanical issue because the switch is working just fine when programmed to use “home/away Home+Control scenes”; therefore yes, the issue has an impact only on scenarios set via HomeKit.
- On the other hand, I’ve tested the “home/away HomeKit scenes” with other hw devices and they work fine. It’s something definitely depending to the actual switch, and I’m sure it’s software.
- Last thing: because I can’t delete the “home/away scenes in Home+Control”, I left them there empty, doing nothing.
Hi Leslie, made some test:
- the actual switch on the wall doesn’t do ANY of HomeKit’s automations/scenes and it doesn’t event turn on/off a bulb.
- the virtual switch, using Home+Connect doesn’t even show up in the room “ingresso”.
- it does show up in the very same room (“ingresso”) in Apple Home app (HomeKit); it’s the virtual switch though and not the actual wall mounted device.
- you can’t use it “remotely” with your phone, there’s now way to click the virtual buttons 1 or 2. When clicked settings are shown.
- strange thing is, you can find the virtual switch in the room “ingresso”, but it isn’t listed in the selectable device to fire up an action (see attached screenshots)
- it does appear with 3rd party apps like Controller for HomeKit. Not only am I able to program each of the two virtual buttons like I do in Apple Home app, but I can also “click” the buttons that I cannot do in Apple Home app. And yes, via 3rd party app virtual switch automations/scenes and simple accessories are turned on and off when programmed via HomeKit or 3rd party apps.
- but the virtual switch can’t fire up the home/away scene set via Home+Control
My considerations given the results of the tests are:
- the actual wall mounted switch do performe the automation only when set via Legrand app Home+Control, but it’s not able to do the same with HomeKit/3rd party apps automations/scenes/accessories
- it’s like the device and its instance on HomeKit are two very separated products.
Of course I can’t get rid of the accessory alone, because it’s belonging to the Gateway and I have 34 more accessories along with tens of automations, that would be a nightmare.
Any help? 🙂
Hello,
What a strange behaviour 😮
If it’s not already done, can you try to : set the automation/scene you want in Home + Control app > set the same scene in HK > delete the scene in Home + Control > check if the scene now works in HK
Also, did you try an HomeKit reset ? It will only reset the link between HK and your installation, but not reset the total installation : https://qna.legrand.com/home-control/c7734c50-ffa1-464c-87d5-33d0e9006ad6/MGL0013?lang=en-US
