Integrate IKEA Smart light switches & remote controls

Assuming that IKEA zigbee lamps could be integrated, why not also integrate those small IKEA zigbee buttons/switches (example: on/off switch TRADFRI) and also those remote controls (Example: IKEA STYRBAR).

It’s possible? Is that your intention?
Or do you think it could compete with your wireless switches?
I think they have different uses.

Hello Wilson,

Indeed, ZigBee 3.0 compatible lamps can be managed by our Gateway, and so via the Home + Control app

We’re not a light bulb manufacturer, so this feature is interesting for us. But integrating Z3.0 switches from other brands would mean providing a free application to manage our direct competitors’ devices … I doubt the marketing would find it interesting for us 😀

I understand your concern. However, these are buttons and sensors, with a different format from yours, for which you do not have a similar offer.

I’m sad that we can’t integrate other switches and motion sensors. Obviously, to place on a wall, on a headboard, or in another similar type of application, I prefer to use Legrand.. But there are certain applications for which yours are too large (with the normal wall format), and these (IKEA/LIDL/etc) are smaller, minuscule, serve other purposes very well. You don’t have a similar offer.

Hello Wilson,

I forwarded your message to the marketing. It’s not impossible that your usecase could give them ideas for future devices

I know this is an old thread, but nevertheless still relevant.

First of all, @Wilson Pacheco – it is possible to use any available third party devices, ZigBee, Z-Wave, WiFi  or even 433MHz to control any Legrand component, by means of the Open Home Foundation platform known as Home Assistant.

Having said that, I do have some issues pairing IKEA bulbs with the H+C App. The App does recognize a bulb when set in pairing mode, but before I can complete the pairing – it drops out again, every time. I know that IKEA bulbs can be tricky to pair with non-IKEA HUBs, but I’ve always been able to do so successfully after a few failed attempts using both ConBee II, ZigBee2MQTT and ZHA. But the Legrand Gateway simply doesn’t seem able to complete the negotiation with an IKEA bulb, even when it tries to.
I always keep the bulb close to the Bubedorf Diamond, and I always initiate paring from the H+C App before resetting the bulb into pairing mode, knowing that the IKEA bulbs have a relatively short window where it allows pairing to take place. Still, to no avail.

Does anyone have different or additional experience with this?

Hi Oyvind,

I would like to create an internal ticket to the teams to ask if there is a known problem with the Ikea Z3.0 bulbs pairing

But there is something I didn’t understood in your message “I always keep the bulb close to the Bubedorf Diamond” <= do you try to perform the pairing in H+C app with a Bubendorff iDiamant ? As far as I know it’s only for Bubendorff shutters management, the pairing must be done with the Legrand Gateway

Hi Leslie,

Please feel free to create a ticket.

According to my understanding, the Legrand Gateway is actually manufactured by Bubendorf in Germany, and it is often referred to as the “Bubendorf Diamond” because the exterior of it has the shape of a diamond.

IKEA documentation often mention the need to be very close to their HUB (max 3 feet away) when pairing IKEA devices, otherwise pairing may fail. This is normally not needed for IKEA bulbs, since in the IKEA ecosystem, bulbs are never paired directly with the hub, but instead to a switch or a motion sensor.

I tried of course to pair these IKEA bulbs to the Legrand Gateway (Bubendorf Diamond). I have successfully paired Phillips HUE bulbs, and Lexman bulbs,

One problem I have is that the Legrand Gateway isn’t able to expose all the clusters from the bulbs. One very important setting missing is the power-on setting. As it is now, if I suffer a mains outage (i.e. in the middle of the night), then all lights switch on when power is restored. Even worse if I am away and the lights remain on 24h a day until I return.

In the HUE and IKEA ecosystems, one can choose the power-on behavior to i.e. last state, meaning that if the bulbs were off during power loss, they will remain off when power is restored. Not so with Legrand regretfully.

Hello Oyvind,

I think that there is a misunderstanding for the 2 gateways :

Can you please confirm that you’re using the correct gateway ?

I asked the question about how is managed the behavior to get all lights ON after an electrical outage. I’m waiting for teams answer

Hi Leslie,

This is what is installed in my apartment:

""(see picture 1)

The block in the middle is what I understand to be the Bubendorf Gateway.  The switch to the left is a combined Home/Away master switch as well as a pairing switch.
I have several rolling shutters, all controlled by this gateway. The shutter switches (one per shutter) looks like this:

(see picture 2)

I also have many Micromodules like this, paired with Legrand wireless wall switches:

(see picture 3)

My understanding is that it is all ZigBee 3.0 but I could be wrong (?)

Anyway, I managed to successfully pair 5 new IKEA GU10 light bulbs, but the Netatmo Integration for HOME Assistant only picks up on/off + dimming entities. Color temperatur, color tint, startup mode, transient settings etc. are lost.
