Homekit is returining “Not Responding” to all Legrand accessories

For the last few days my homekit shows not responding for Legrand Accessories.

If I reset Legrand Gateway ( Reset WiFi and Homekit settings ) everything is back to normal for a few hours and then again not responding.

I reset everything ( Apple TV, Router, Gateways, iPhone)  but still this is happening.

Of course if I use Home+Control app everything is working as expected.

Any ideas what to do ?

Thank you

HomeKit Not Responding Stories #151

Until now everything seems working ok , without anything wrong. What I saw though was that Yesterday night suddenly the HomeKit stopped responding ( I was in one second it worked the other no ).

Then I tried again the trick I did before : Open Home+Control App , switch something on , leave the app, went back to HomeKit App , everything went back to normal.

It seems that something is not OK between Legrand and HomeKit.

I’ve hit the same problem with my test install 🙁 I have just a FC80GT, FC80RC and a wireless switch. No HomeKit bridge. First I was unable to connect the Home+Control to the gateway – was giving the error to check if I’m not using a 5Ghz wifi, while my router has only 2.4Ghz. After a reset of the gateway I was finally able to get Home+Control working but HomeKit was completely not responding – the room names were there, but no accessories. If I change the room name in Home+Control the name changes was correctly propagated in HomeKit. When I opened the bridge in HomeKit it reported that the bridge is not responding. This makes the whole HomeKit app stall if you try to perform any action (for example add accessory).

Not the best first time experience and I was under the impression that the Legrand/BTIcino gateways were aiming for HomeKit certified label! One of the reasons why I chose to use them instead of any other protocol/bridge.

Hopefully this will get resolved soon or I might have to look at the possibility to write a HomeBridge plugin to work with the Netatmo’s API and get the whole installation work via HomeBridge.

Peter,

A better option would be to use a 3rd party Zigbee gateway. The API cloud dependency experience is less than ideal.

Thanks for the hint, Brant, but I prefer if possible to make it work w/o another gateway. Think it will be more reliable and having another gateway that also might not work very good 😉

I was hoping to get a bit more information from the developers and Product Manager to answer your email.

A bit of a follow up on this. After the initial not responding from the gateway, I’ve removed the home, created a new one and directly scanned the HomeKit code of the gateway in the Apple Home app. This added the relays and I was able to control them from the Apple Home app, while connected to the same WiFi (since I did not have a hub).

Today I installed a HomePod mini as a hub, and immediately after it was added to the Apple Home app, all the lights went in “No Response” status (although I followed the instructions and placed both the HomePod and the Gateway in the same room). I decided to remove the FC80GT gateway from Apple Home app and completely reset the gateway (double orange lights). I then went through initial setup of the gateway/relays – no matter how many times I retried, initialization of HomeKit from the H+C app never worked – I always got the error that I’m not connected to the same WiFi and to check that I’m connected to 2.4GHz, although just WiFi set up worked w/o any problem using the same iPhone that I’m using with the HomeKit association. Scanning the HomeKit code directly from Apple Home app worked again and added the lights, but they again show as “No Response” status and cannot be controlled.

@Leslie, what can we do to further troubleshoot this? Has the dev team pinpointed the problem? Almost seems that H+C HomeKit association is completely broken and it is becoming really frustrating that the link between Legrand and HomeKit is barely usable 🙁

Quick update from my side, I’ve been running a Sonoff Zigbee dongle on a raspberry pi 4 running Zigbee2MQTT and Homebridge for just over a week and it’s been rock solid.

I’ve joined all the Legrand switches to it, along with Hue lights/motion sensors/buttons, Ikea lights and Aqara roller blind drivers.

It took a bit of fiddling to get everything added and presented in HomeKit the way I want it, but it was easier and less frustrating than even the initial Legrand setup (where I had to buy a second gateway because the first one refused to pair, also I bought two wireless double switches which have never worked reliably or correctly).

Its also far faster and more reliable than each of the separate hubs particularly the Legrand hub.

I went out of my way to research and choose Legrand because it was HomeKit first and ironically the better experience would’ve been to get a bunch of no-name zigbee based switches and role my own hub.

I’m hugely disappointed in Legrand and the support experience and will not recommend their products to anyone going forward.

Hello,

Here is the latest news coming from a specific developer meeting about this issue at the end of last week :

  • when the association between the Legrand gateway and HomeKit is done, the “configure HomeKit” line in the settings of Home + Control app must disappear. They noticed that in case of unresponsive devices, the line reappears. Can you also notice it ?
  • some improvements are done with HomeKit in the 2.20 iOS Home + Control app currently in beta version. It could maybe improve the way our ecosystem interprets HK orders

Developers are investigating in that way and I have a colleague that will do some tests with this 2.20 beta version and tell me if it improves the behavior

Leslie, thanks for the update! Hopefully the dev team will figure out what is going on. If needed I volunteer to test the beta version through TestFlight on my installation 🙂

As for your first point – I personally haven’t noticed the HomeKit button to re-appear under the Gateway info page. It only re-appears if I delete the Legrand Gateway from the Apple Home app, but I think this is an expected behavior.

A follow up on my end – I noticed that H+C was updated yesterday to 1.20 and decided to give it a shot – deleted the whole home in Apple Home, added first the homepod mini and then resetted HomeKit on Legrand Gateway. After that I was able to add w/o any problem and the lights are available in Apple Home!

A note – the error for 2.4Ghz WiFi seems a generic one – for example before resetting HK on the gateway when I tried to add it I immediately got that error, but in fact the problem was that the HK was not resetted on the gateway. Also after the reset got the same error because of a timeout while trying to scan my HK code on the gateway.

Lesslie, might be a good idea to show a more precise error instead of the generic one that the app can’t connect probably because of bad wifi as it will make your support life much easier (this is coming from a Software Engineer/Support Specialist as I know how those generic errors make troubleshooting a nightmare :))

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the feedback ! Indeed some users seemed to notice improvements with the iOS 2.20 version of Home + Control. Our tests also seem to show good things with the iOS 16.3 update. Investigations are still ongoing

I also had the error you mentioned at my first HomeKit reset (I cursed the devices :D). I’ll report it one more time to the teams

I am also getting the 2.4Ghz error. How do you reset Homekit on an Australian (HPM Arteor by Netatmo) gateway module? It has no buttons to hold in for 10sec to reset?

Hey Alex,

There’s no reset button on the Aussie version, which is frustrating.

You’ve got to use the paired home/away button as you did when you set it up.

From memory you hold both buttons until it flashes green, then do the same again and the gateway should go into pairing mode again.

Thanks Alec. I actually do that following the instructions within the Control app. It always comes up with the 2.4Ghz error warning and does not complete. Adding it directly in the Apple Home app does not load the accessory either – times out (but it does pop up the icon for Legrand Gateway to pair with Homekit code like it is trying).
I thought perhaps that Homekit needs to be reset reading all the above, hence my question. I must admit I am completely stumped given it worked perfectly the first time. Control of devices is fine from within the Control app, just no HomeKit control unfortunately.
Any additional thoughts appreciated!

Thank you

Hi Alexandratos,

https://assets.legrand.com/pim/NP-FT-GT/F02616EN-00.pdf : what I understand from page 2 is that you can remove the diamond decoration from the gateway to access the EZ button. A 10 seconds push on it should do a HomeKit reset

I must admit I don’t much know Arteor range, so I strongly advise you to contact Australian Customer Support in case of need : https://www.legrand.com.au/contact-us
